Family Entertainment at 37th Annual Old Fort Days Centennial Celebration

Bring the entire family for a wonderful day trip or weekend outing to Fort Sumner, New Mexico and enjoy the happenings of Old Fort Days Centennial Celebration on June 6-9, 2012.   “The sleepy little village with a shady little past” prides itself as the burial place of Billy the Kid and the Old Fort Days activities which center around the famous outlaw of the early 1900’s.

Friday, June 8th  , The Kid’s Day, will feature activities and events for children of all ages including the 4H Pet Show, The Kid’s Goat Roping & Watermelon Feed, and The Kid’s Little Britches Events. 

Saturday, June 9th begins at 7:00 a.m. at Sumner Lake State Park with the Billy the Kid Tombstone Triathlon, followed by  the Masonic Lodge Cowboy Breakfast, Billy the Kid Rod Run Car Show, Parade, BBQ Lunch, Horseshoe Pitching, Navajo Dancers, Billy the Kid Tombstone Race, Hog Calling Contest, and Tug of War.

Friday, June 8th and Saturday, June 9th:  Old West Trade Show and outside vendors; Bosque Redondo Memorial, NM State Monument Centennial Celebration, and the Bender Chevrolet Old Fort Days Rodeo.

Old Fort Days Rodeo

The Old Fort Days Centennial Celebration will be held in Fort Sumner, New Mexico on June 6-9, 2012.  One of the feature events of the weekend includes the Bender Chevrolet NMRA Rodeo.  Performances will be held on Friday, June 8th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 9th at 8:00 p.m.  The rodeo’s slack performance will be held on Thursday, June 7th beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The Bender Chevrolet Family of Dealerships of Clovis, New Mexico has had a long-standing relationship as the headliner sponsor for the Old Fort Days Rodeo.  This year’s New Mexico Rodeo Association (NMRA) rodeo is also designated as one of the “Six Pack Series” of rodeos and will offer lots of excitement for spectators. 

Cowboys from several states will compete in events and will provide much excitement for spectators. The Ranch Bronc Riding has been added as a standard event to each performance due to its popularity among ranch cowboys.  Spectators can expect to watch many local cowboys as they compete in the rodeo events. 

Admission for each rodeo performance is $7.00 – 13 and over; $4.00 – Ages 7-12 yrs; and Ages 6 & under are FREE.

The Old Fort Days Rodeo Committee is also selling tickets for a Dusty Rhodes 30X felt cowboy hat which will be selected during each performance of the rodeo.  Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. 

Additionally, the rodeo committee is selling tickets for an NMRA Horse Trailer.  The trailer is made by Calico and is a 2 horse slant, bumper pull with a tack/dressing compartment.  The winner will be drawn during the NMRA Finals Rodeo in October.  Tickets are $10.00 each and may be purchased from Cortese Feed & Supply or the De Baca County Chamber of Commerce.  For more information contact the Chamber office at 575-355-7705.
