Dining at Huwaka Restaurant, Sky City Casino Hotel – Review
The dining at the Huwaka Restaurant, Sky City Casino Hotel, in Acoma, New Mexico, is a culinary oasis in between Albuquerque and Grants. Who knew?
The dining room reflects the natural environment of this southwest stop-over; light and airy with raw knotty beams and woods. Heavy light-colored wooden chairs in a more formal dining atmosphere are comfortable and emit rustic luxury. Adobe walls lined with stepped shelves and niches contain Native pottery and add to the ambiance.
The hostess, waiters and staff are friendly and courteous, talkative, and knowledgeable of the area. Prices on the menu begin around $7.99 and increase from there.
A dinner buffet with a special is available each night. It was steak night when Discover New Mexico popped in. The full buffet dinner bar, salad bar, breads, scrumptious desserts and drinks, are all-inclusive at $12.99 per person. The flat iron steak was tender and delicious as were the home-style mashed potatoes. Various vegetable combinations were offered, the best of which was the squash mixture of zucchini, yellow and butternut, succulantly prepared and dripping in sweetness and juices. The mushrooms and onions were equally delicious.
The salad bar was exquisit and offered an array of fresh, healthy vegetables and fruits with various types of lettuce and fresh spinach rather than just the usual boring salad bar mix. Fresh-cut pineapples, melons and cantelope in the skins were satisfying enough for the sweet-tooth but the dessert bar held slices of chocolate cake and various tempting creamy pies as well. The apple cobbler with its home-style flakey crust was some of the best to be had.
Whether you are stopping by the Sky City Hotel and Casino to try your luck, to stay in the overnight RV park or hotel or just to fill-up with gas at the travel center, a meal at the Huwaka Restaurant is well worth the indulgence. A top-notch dining experience at casino prices. Sky City's Huwaka does it right.
Best of all, the restaurant sports late hours for the tired and hungry traveler (or should we say gambler?),
Sun – Thurs: 7am – 10pm and Fri – Sat: 7am – Midnight.
