Coming up this week in Santa Fe, the burning of Zozobra which takes place at Ft. Marcy Park every year on the first Thursday after Labor Day. It is an interesting festival, originally developed in honor of La Conquistadora, where the believers shed the “old” from the year; these are represented in the ugly man that is burned. As the crowd watches their old ways go up in smoke, they are purged and cleansed.

Zozobra also kicks off the weekend of Santa Fe Fiesta, the oldest civic celebration in the nation, a weekend of fun, food, crafts and more.
